In case anyone is interested in what I’m reading right now, I’m reading through the origins of fantasy lit for a class. If you want to read along with me, or are just interested in what I’m reading, here it is:
Beowulf  Really good, if you haven’t read it, go read it. Pick up the Seamus Heaney version.
The Faery Queen: Book 1  Kinda slow. Find an abridged version.
Phantasies: George MacDonald   Fairly good. If you want to know what Lewis was influenced by, go red this.
Lilith: George MacDonald It was OK. A bit slow, and a little heavy on the philosophy
The waters of the wondrous isle: William Morris  Haven’t read it yet
Five Children and It: Nesbit  Haven’t read it yet
Place of the lion: Charles Williams  Haven’t read it yet
Titus Groan: Mervyn Peake  Very good, but really odd. If you want to find out what has influenced fantasy other than the Morris-MacDonald-Lewis/Tolkien line go read this.
The fellowship of the ring: Tolkien  If you like fantasy you should read this.Â
Perelandra C.S. Lewis   Kinda science fiction, but still counts. One of his greats of his books for adults.
Wizard of Earthsea: Ursula K. leGuin   Do yourself a favour and read this. It only takes a day or two. You could read it in a night if your fast. Just read it.
Anyway. Now you know what I’m reading.
I’m going to put the randomness of this post down to the medication I’m on.
Enjoy.
