I recommend the new "The Rachel Maddow Show." It's a left leaning but mostly serious news show (there is an obligatory but brief pop culture segment). She avoids many of Keith's excesses (and this is coming from an Olbermann fan) while providing an insightful look at politics and other current events.

How is everybody to blame for the Republicans still having a realistic shot at victory? Do you mean that the Democrats aren't attacking her properly? Is it that many Americans would prefer to have people that they "can sit down and have a beer with" in power regardless of their qualifications?

It's true, and it's freaky. Sarah Palin's "experience" is nonexistent, and her previous heroics while in office have all proven to be mythical. She's as made up and robotic as the little girl from "Small Wonder," who, it should be noted, might be just as qualified to be president.

All that said, why are the Republicans still in this thing if Palin's ineptness is so manifest? Everybody--the American people to Barack Obama himself--is to blame for that. Is it a wonder some people are elitists?

Hear hear!

Myself, I believe that there is NO WAY that Senator McCain picked her of his own volition. If it was up to him, he would have almost certainly picked Senator Lieberman. He was told to pick Governor Palin to energize the Republican base. That proved to be a short-sighted stratgey; it worked for the most part, but it has done nothing to endear him to the undecided voters and it is making moderate Republicans very wary of a McCain Presidency. The perpetual lying is just the icing on the cake.

Something needs to make the Republican party rethink their current stance on a lot of issues. But, as we always see, the party in power is arrogant and the party out of power is crazy. The just reverse their roles every decade or so.

Regards,

ET

I am quite proud of McCain for now distancing himself from Hagge. I think he's moved a step in the right direction. And I'm also glad that Obama has distanced himself from his former pastor as well. I think there is more than enough religious craziness to go around.

I'd rather see the candidates associate themselves with religious leaders who seek to love those who have hurt them, rather than attacking (something Obama's pastor didn't seem to understand).

I look forward to seeing the candidates take a closer look at who's advising them. I think we'll see a lot more repudiations in the near future. Just because someone supports you, doesn't mean that you need to support them.

Though I'm currently leaning slightly more to the Democrat side, it's more because of a lack of options than anything else. I'm having a hard time seeing the current Republican leadership looking out for any but themselves and the well off. The Democrats aren't much better, but they are just enough for me to vote their way. My hope is that a defeat this november will cause the Republican party to rethink the way they've been going.

By the way, I quite enjoyed your blog. Thanks for stopping by.

Actually, McCain distanced himself from and repudiated Hagge's remarks in pretty short order. Something Obama couldn't seem to accomplish with Wright after 20 years in his church. Or is it only Republican associations with religious craziness that you're concerned with?

Hey Lar,
Yeah, it was unfortiunate phrasing on her part. I hope that it was just a mistake and not a freudian slip. Anyway, if I find problems with your grammar you can always blame it on Sohmer :)
